Am I Eligible?
Applicants from all backgrounds and ethnic groups are encouraged to apply. The minimum age to apply is 18 and there is no upper age limit, though you should bear in mind that the normal retirement age for police constables and sergeants is 60.
All new recruits regardless of age are required to undertake a two-year probationary period.
Eligibility Requirements
Nationality – You must be a British Citizen, an EC/EAA national or commonwealth citizen or you can be a foreign national with NO restrictions on your stay in the UK.Candidates who have lived abroad may be required to have resided in the UK for at least THREE years due to the difficulties regarding obtaining sufficient vetting checks from abroad.
All applicants will be vetted to the same standard before appointment.
Different forces will have different requirements so you should check on the force website you wish to apply for to determine their specific requirements.
Criminal Record – Certain crimes will mean rejection of your application it is easy to contact the force in question to ask for more information.
Tattoos and Body Facial piercings are not suitable if visible and tattoos are not acceptable if they are prominent, garish offensive or could cause offence or could undermine your roles authority, again it’s easy to approach the force website you are considering for information.
